Glastonbury organisers really want to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced in 2010. One of the biggest contributions comes from how ticket holders travel to the Festival – in fact, audience transport contributes to two thirds of the Festival’s total emissions.

A coach travelling to the Festival at full capacity is the most carbon efficient way to arrive. Travelling by coach produces 6.02kg of co2 per person. By comparison, trains produce 28.40kg/person and car/campervan 37.77kg/per person. Choosing to come by coach really is the greenest way to travel to Glastonbury. (If you do come by car, please try to make sure it is full of passengers to help reduce cars on the road and emissions.)

BRISTOL: Single (£207.50), Return (£221.50)

Excited about our favourite Green Festival 2000 Trees? We at wristband4festivals are bursting with excitement, and with their latest announcements you’ll see why.

Check out a video of last years 2000 trees fest on YouTube

Ticket sales have broken all records for the 2000trees Festival, amid rave reviews for its line-up, confirm the festivals organisers.

The event has enjoyed the fastest first month of ticket sales in its four-year history, while attracting ever-increasing media interest – including the label “one of the hottest tickets of the summer”.

Headliners The Subways and Frank Turner were announced last month, along with Bombay Bicycle Club (NME’s Best New Band 2010), Metronomy, 65 Days of Static, The Xcerts, Crazy Arm and local heroes Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun.

And today second stage headliners Your Twenties are among the many bands to that have been confirmed.

New acts for the Tree House (main stage) are: And So I Watch You From Afar, Three Trapped Tigers, Flashguns, and Skeletons and the Empty Pockets.

Leaf Lounge (second stage) additions include Little Fish, Orphans & Vandals, Vessels, Midnight Mile, A Genuine Freakshow, Lo-fi Culture Scene,
Cats and Cats and Cats.

And new acts for the Greenhouse (third stage) are Jake Morley, Shoes and Socks Off, Men Diamler, Daniel Conti, Side-step DJ’s, Aspen Sails, Oxygen Thief, May Fly Trio, Joe Summers, Ruth Bewsey, Carlos and the Jackal, Every Other Ones.

There will be around 60 artists on three stages at the award-winning event, which takes place at Upcote Farm near Cheltenham between Friday July 16th and Saturday July 17th.

There will also be comedy, DJs, Headphone disco and campfire sing-a-longs to keep the party spirit going till dawn – and an extra day of music and fun for the first 500 people on Thursday July 15.

The proud organisers are six friends and festival veterans who decided to start their own event in 2007, after growing frustrated with the mass-produced nature of the larger music festivals. And they believe their love of live music has helped them achieve a great start to 2010.

One of them, Andy Rea, said: “The first review I read this week touted 2000trees Festival as ‘one of the hottest tickets of the summer’ which was
a really great reward for our efforts. We think we’ve brought together our strongest line-up yet and we can’t wait to see them perform. Ticket sales
reflect that strength, but we also believe the intimate and friendly atmosphere of the event makes people return year after year.

“We know the giant festivals can afford to pull in the biggest acts of the moment, but we offer a different focus on discovering your new favourite
band, without some of the headaches that go with huge events. We’ve had over 1,000 band applications and every band we book we’ve seen live, so we
know the pedigree is there.”

Disillusioned by extortionate ticket prices with over-priced food and drink, these six friends vowed to take matters into their own hands and in true punk rock style, set about developing the perfect antidote. They also manage to be one of the greenest festivals, winning the national ‘A Greener Festival Award’ in 2008 and achieving 90% recycling at last year’s festival.

Rising stars play alongside more established acts to create an inspiring, chilled out, fun festival of good music and great atmosphere, set within the stunning Cotswolds countryside.

Tickets cost just £50 for a weekend camping pass and are available at www.twothousandtreesfestival.co.uk

Scotland’s festival fever is burning up…PENDULUM are revealed as the latest big name headliner bound for RockNess.

The Aussie maestros whose live sets enrapture rockers and ravers alike are set to make their momentous debut assault on Dores this June on the Friday night in the mighty Clash Arena, and one that coincides with the release of their third album ‘Immersion’.

Hinting on what to expect from the new material, frontman Rob Swire revealed on NME.com the band has “gone quite electronic again”, cryptically adding that there were collaborations with “major electronic artists” including one he thought it would be “impossible” to hook up with.

Speaking about their RockNess appearance – another Scottish festival exclusive - PENDULUM said “We can’t wait to hit Scotland again. Everyone knows the Scottish crowd is one of the best. Here we f*cking go!”. The summer beckons!

Joining PENDULUM is the ‘Baron of Techno’ DAVE CLARKE, an electro genius whose prolific output knows no boundaries and will be appreciated in heaps by the party loving RockNess crowd.

Commenting on the announcements, Festival Director Jim King said “This is an important announcement for the festival. Pendulum have been a hugely impressive band over the last year, their new album is amazing and looks set to take them even higher. There’s now no better reason to get to Loch Ness on the Friday than simply to check out their new live show in the Clash Arena. Nothing more can be said about Dave Clarke other than he is the master. His sets are legendary and Sunday is going to finish with one hell of a bang.”

This latest news comes hot on the heels of the reveal that VAMPIRE WEEKEND will support THE STROKES on the Sunday night, completing a double whammy of New York cool.

The most judicious dance and rock fans are well catered for this year with DOVES, IAN BROWN, HADOUKEN!, ENTER SHIKARI and FRIENDLY FIRES joining a dazzling proposition of the finest international electronic talent including THE BLOODY BEETROOTS, VITALIC, AEROPLANE, PLAN B, BOOKASHADE, THE JAPANESE POPSTARS, DAN LE SAC VS SCROOBIUS PIP, CHASE & STATUS, BOYS NOIZE, THE DUB PISTOLS and RockNess favourites THE CUBAN BROTHERS.

Five years since FATBOY SLIM staged the first RockNess, and following a sabbatical in 2009, he returns to headline this June. Joining him in a truly unmissable coup, and another brilliant Scottish festival exclusive, is LEFTFIELD – the first live performance in a decade.

BBC RADIO 1 is on board as the OFFICIAL RADIO PARTNER for 2010 too with the inimitable ZANE LOWE , ANNIE MAC and ROB DA BANK all Scotland-bound to each host an arena . Topping the fantasy DJ line up of clubbers far and wide, RockNess is also proud to announce the appearance of the world’s most exclusive DJ collective CLUB 75.  Part Justice, part Cassius, with the very best of the mighty Ed Banger Records thrown in, the all-French star line up is set to deliver what promises to be one of the hottest performances of the entire summer.

The monstrous ARCADIA ARENA makes its big, bold RockNess debut in 2010 in one of the few times witnessed outside of Glastonbury. This world class audio and visual feast of mind boggling post-apocalyptic pyrotechnics, dramatic podiums extending into the crowd, multi rave platforms and fire performance displays has to be seen to be believed. Set against the backdrop of Loch Ness, expect to be well and truly blown away. Watch this space for the Arcadia DJ line up coming soon!

RockNess takes place on Friday 11th – Sunday 13th June and returns as a three-day event following last year’s successful extension to three nights when the Main Stage got the party started on the Friday night for the first time.

The award winning Creamfields festival which takes place on August Bank Holiday weekend has been granted a 3 year license for its festival site in Daresbury, the first ever dance festival to receive an extended year license.

Creamfields which scooped the award for ‘Best Dance Festival’ in the 2009 UK Festival Awards was granted the license last night by Halton Borough Council’s regulatory committee.  Following last years sell out show which attracted a record breaking 60,000 people from across the UK, the team behind the festival have increased investment into site infrastructure for 2010, which will see bigger and better arenas and increased space and capacity in the campsites.

Event Manager Jim King from Loudsound said:  “This decision to grant the festival a 3 year license is a very important decision in that it clearly shows the confidence that the authorities have in Creamfields and it’s management team. The festival has now established itself at its new location in Cheshire as one of the largest, most popular and well operated electronic festivals in the world.”

In 2006 Creamfields relocated from Liverpool to its Daresbury home in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, and to coincide with its 10th Anniversary celebrations became a 2 day camping show in 2008. Line up for this years show to be announced soon.

Creamfields 2010 returns on Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th August Bank holiday weekend, Early Bird camping tickets are on sale now.

Oh the times they are exciting in the Bestival bunker as the intrepid Rob da Bank and his trusty team continue to conjure strange delights making special plans for another Isle of Wight adventure from September 9th – 12th; Bestival 2010, The Year Of The Fantastic!

Featuring some properly iconic acts and a visionary fancy dress theme, this year’s show is going to be an earthly paradise beyond compare.

Rob da Bank says: “When it’s the year of the Fantastic at Bestival it doesn’t get much more fanbleedingtastic than Roxy Music. A lifelong fan of it all from the Seventies and Eighties, Roxy have always been at the vanguard of creating imaginary worlds in music all backed up with some of the best music of the 20th century. Add in Besti faves Mumford and Sons, the legend that is Tricky, Nile Rodgers bringing possibly the funkiest band alive Chic to the Island and loads more from Cornershop to Sub Focus, Skream to garage god Todd Edwards and we’re really taking shape now. Come and join us!’

Musical giants Roxy Music will be playing a hit-packed set on the main stage on Saturday night. One of the most influential acts of all time, the punks, new romantics, electro-poppers and more that have followed in their wake all owe a huge sonic and sartorial debt to this truly timeless act.

Driven by the refined and effortless cool of Bryan Ferry, one of pop music’s most revered frontmen, Roxy Music’s catalogue of boundary-crushing songs, that include Virginia Plain, Street Life and Love Is The Drug are sure to blow the Bestival faithful away.

Commenting on their appearance Bryan Ferry said: “The Isle of Wight has a strong festival tradition so it’s great to be coming to Bestival with Roxy Music – it seems a great idea to have fantasy as this year’s theme. I’m also really looking forward to seeing Nile Rodgers and Chic again”.

Having kept it a closely guarded secret we can now unveil the incredible and much anticipated fancy dress theme for our Year Of The Fantastic… Rob da Bank says: ‘Roll up roll up tribe of the Bestivalites  descend from your starships, rise out of the seabed, fall from the stars, unleash the Magick and release your imagination into our 2010 world of FANTASY.

Open the gates and welcome in Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, The Lord of the Rings, hobbits, trolls, elves, fairies, the Odyssey, King Arthur, Merlin, the Dong with the luminous nose, William Morris, A Midsummer Nights Dream, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Willy Wonka, Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, Harry Potter, Spirited Away, The Time Machine, Star Wars, the Incredible Hulk, magick, the supernatural, Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Lord Ganesh, Fantasy Island, Caractacus Potts, Tarzan, Veruca Salt, Zombies!’ The only limit is how far your mind’s eye can see…

Staying very much with the fantastical there’s even more amazing music to be announced including, alt-folk sensations Mumford & Sons. Currently riding high on a crest of adulation for their acclaimed ‘Sigh No More’ album, the band is a renowned live sensation that will add a sublimely rustic rock vibe to proceedings.

One of Camp Bestival 2009’s most incandescent delights Chic Featuring Nile Rodgers are set to wow the Robin Hill crowd with their peerless disco-funk that spans not only their own amazing back catalogue but also takes in Nile Rodgers penned solid gold hits from the likes of Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, David Bowie and Madonna.

Plus there will be Bristolian rhyme messiah and all-round musical maverick Tricky who is currently mining a rich seam of form that will see him captivating one and all with his genre-smashing exploits. The Brown Punk don is a bona fide trailblazer who, from his debut album ‘Maxinquaye’ all the way through to the recent, lauded ‘Knowle West Boy’, has never failed to capture the imagination.

As if that wasn’t enough to get you writing off anything else but booking a trip across the Solent for the second weekend in September organisers have got so much more to tickle your fancy including Aussie atmospherics from The Temper Trap, live tear out action from Sub Focus, the majestic musical musings of sing-a-long geniuses, Cornershop, plus BBC Radio 1’s newest purveyor of late night beats Alex Metric playing live, heads-down psych-garage agents The Jim Jones Revue, off-kilter pop from Everything Everything, bloggers delight Memory Tapes, North London types Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, trad. 2000trees organisers are very chuffed this week, and why shouldn’t they be?

First they announced Saturday’s headline act Frank Turner and now The Subways have been confirmed as Saturday’s headline act.

The two headliners will now join bands Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun, Ben Marwood and The Dawn Chorus.

In 2008 2000trees joined the likes of Glastonbury and Latitude Festivals in winning the “A Greener Festival” award. According to AGreenerFestival.com, “all the award winners have demonstrated the ability to promote environmental efficiency and sustainability and that they have coherent green policies covering greenhouse gas emissions, traffic and transport, waste management, recycling, protecting the environment and water management.”

2000trees takes place between Friday 16th and Saturday 17th July 2010, tickets are on sale now.

Saturday 31st July 2010 will see the return of Field Day to London’s leafy green corner of Victoria Park. Embarking on their fourth annual outing, Field Day have an incredible array of acts lined up that will ensure that you’ll have no choice but to mark the date for one of this summer’s truly essential festivals firmly in your diary. Brought to you by London’s most forward thinking and bold promoters – Eat Your Own Ears, Adventures In The Beetroot Field, Bugged Out! – Field Day will once again deliver the freshest line up of bands and DJs of the 2010 Festival season, plus the Village Mentality, village fete area complete with Brass Band, tug o’ war, sack racing and much more.

Tom Baker of Eat Your Own Ears and main booker for Field Day says: We are delighted to be back now in our fourth year, incredible how time flies; it seems so long ago that Field Day began. I am really excited to have Phoenix headline, a great live band and a band that will get you dancing and singing… The rest of the bill is really shaping up, there are so many great albums out in 2010, it feels like an exciting time for music…”

Starting with a bang, Field Day are proud to announce that Grammy award winning Gallic indie-pop sensations Phoenix will be headlining 2010’s event. With their fourth album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix gathering accolades left right and centre, whilst continuing to bowl over their fans and win them a whole new audience of admirers, the band’s irresistible blend of strutting disco and blissful euphoric pop all topped off with their effortless insouciant indie vibe will be the perfect end to what promises to be Field Day’s most amazing event yet.

Other acts to be unveiled include Amiina, the spellbinding Icelandic female four-piece who have graced the albums and shows of Sigur Ros, who will be showcasing their enchanting take on minimalist and contemporary classical music.

Beth Jeans Houghton will be performing her experimental folk with keyboards, xylophones and a looped choir of herself and will be joined on stage by her band the Hooves Of Destiny

Caribou, whose amazing new album ‘Swim’ (out in April) will be taking the dynamic interplay between visuals, electronics and live sound to the next level with a set of brightly textured, rapturous gems that gleam with astonishing production.

Chilly Gonzales, the world record holder for the world’s longest solo performance, will be tickling the ivories in his own inimitable style and partaking in some mass audience participation.

Corsano And Flowers featuring Mick Flower (Vibracathedral Orchestra, Sunroof, Magik Markers, Michael Flower Band) and Chris Corsano most well know for his incredible percussion work with Bjork, will be revelling in their virtuoso collaboration, drawing on influences from primitive blues, La Monte Young and John Cale. Strains of Kate Bush or Siouxie and the Banshees can be heard in the echoing, eerie vocals of Esben And The Witch who present the dynamics of post-rock in an bewitching, electronic, pop context. The Brighton three piece’s sound has also drawn comparisons with PJ Harvey, Portishead, Bjork, Radiohead and Cocteau Twins but present a dark, haunting music that is very much of their own.

Gold Panda started writing beats and collaborating a few years ago, working with the likes of Infinite Livez and Shuttle (both Ninja Tune) as well as creating his own beautiful, glitchy electronica, referencing a multitude of influences and born out of samples constructed partly from charity shop vinyl and VHS. This BBCs “sound of 2010″ and MTV-dubbed “remix king” created raved-about reworkings for the likes of Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco and Health.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s insanely catchy and upbeat instrumental hip-hop is sure to get your feet working as the 9-piece work up a frenzied sweat. Born in Chicago , with Phil Cohran (Sun Ra Arkestra) as their dad, the 8 brothers began their career as street musicians, busking on the sidewalks before they laid anything down on tape. Their jazz roots are evident, but jazz from 100 years ago, solid, dancefloor music which differs from the avant-garde offerings of their father’s community, but is as individual as anything you’ll ever hear. The group feature on the new Gorillaz album Plastic Beach alongside Lou Reed, Bobby Womack, Mos Def and more.

The man to get even the most jaded dance music aficionado excited about music again, James Holden, will be dropping a superlative set that takes in elements of house, electro, breakbeat, techno and beyond. Plus there will be must-see appearances from Bristolian beat maverick Joker And MC Nomad who will be supplying the pressure.

The mighty Max Tundra will be throwing down an intricate mosaic of sounds and styles, and as anyone who saw him supporting Hot Chip on their last tour will testify, Max Tundra knows how to get the party started!

Memory Tapes will be dropping their cutting edge 80-s infused catchy, wistful grooves, electronic pioneers Mouse On Mars make a rare live outing to come and play Field Day, they are currently working on their brand new album, so expect new music and exciting new sounds.

Pantha Du Prince who has just released a brilliant new album, ‘Black Noise’, on Rough Trade, will be communing with nature playing his pastoral techno made with sounds sampled from the great outdoors. All the more appropriate that he should bring his shoegazey, psychedelic soundscapes in the open air of Victoria Park.

And the incredible psychedelic experimental synth genius Silver Apples, whose interstellar drones and driving, minimalistic music pre-empted krautrock, 70s electronica and 90s rock, will be bringing a healthy dose of New York attitude to the east end of London.

There will also be the return of ‘Village Mentality’, the off-the-wall Village Green area within the festival that supplies the masses with some bucolic treats away from the hubbub of the main festival. Inspired by summer sports days and country fetes – Field Day’s very own village green will host stalls and activities throughout the daytime, ranging from sack-racing, to whack-the-rat, Bowling for Bacon, you can try your luck on the tombola, crack a few nuts on the coconut shy – or just sit on some hay bales and stuff your face with homemade cake… and lots more to be announced, and as the country saying goes – “be like an ant in the days of summer”.

Field Day takes place on Saturday July 31st 2010, in London’s Victoria Park. Tickets are available now.

Since then Frank, hailed as a latter day Billy Bragg, has played memorable performances on the Treehouse and Leaf Lounge stages, as well as in impromptu campsite set for a select lucky few, but this year’s star attraction is set to be a monumental, fun-filled and raucous performance from one of the nation’s most electrifying performers.

Promoting the finest homegrown talent emerging from the vibrant British music scene, 2000trees is the perfect place to unearth tomorrow’s stars today. With an eclectic line-up spanning many musical genres, this intimate and friendly festival has become a haven for music fans, many of whom discover their new favourite bands at the event.

Rising stars play alongside more established acts to create an inspiring, chilled out, fun festival of good music and great atmosphere, set within the stunning Cotswolds countryside.

In its short history 2000trees has established itself as one of the leading small festivals in the British summer calendar. Created by a group of friends in 2007, the festival was born out of frustration with the ever increasing corporate sponsorship and mass advertising nature of the larger traditional British festivals.

Disillusioned by extortionate ticket prices with over priced food and drink, this band of festival veterans vowed to take matter into their own hands and in true punk rock style set about developing the perfect antidote.

There are two full days of live music featuring over 50 acts on three stages, plus VIP early entry for the first 500 people to purchase early entry passes, for an extra evening of music and camping under the stars on July 15th.

Festival organizer Andy Rea said, “2000trees is set to enjoy its best year yet and has built up a loyal following of passionate music fans because of the line-up.

“It is an affordable way to have a great time and be inspired about new British music, perhaps even to discover a new favourite band for the first time.”

Previous acts include Frank Turner, The King Blues, Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Art Brut, Danananaykroyd and Red Light Company.

Punkmas Festival Poster

Zoot allores! Or, to use the more seasonal expression, ‘Sacre Bleau!” Preston’s Mad Ferret are only hosting  their 2nd Punkmas Party on December 30th. Crikey.

Mad Ferret’ gaffer and Chief in Charge of Everything, Fraser Boon, said, “Last year’s Punkmas was an amazing success, with all bands playing at the top of their game to a packed house. Following that was always going to be tough, but, with this year’s line up, I think we’ll just about do it”

Attendees’ lives will be forever divided into ‘Before Punkmas;’ and ‘After Punkmas’ from 8pm on the 30th December, with attendance being absolutely, totally 100% free, (that’s right). As all bands are all equally brilliant, there’s no running order at the moment. However, turning up on time will get you:

Mr PotatoHed

Mr PotatoHed exploded on to the Preston punk scene in 1991 and burned like a supernova until catastrophically imploding under the weight of their own egos around the end of the millennium. Fully resurrected, completely reanimated and returning to Punkmas for the second year running, MPH are set to blow audiences away with a high octane mix of Punk Rock, 100MPH Beats, as well as the odd Gag and Funny. Some of which may involve a wheely bin.

Dennis Delight

Frank and Mick have been playing together under the Dennis Delight name since 1973. Both are now in their 60s and the band’s accumulated age is a majestic 166. From the 1970’s to the 1990’s, Dennis Delight have firmly established themselves as the stuff of legend around Preston, the UK and the world, (possibly even beyond that, too).

Ignition/UK

The second act to return from last year’s event, Punkmas will mark Ignition/UK’s return to the Preston and Manchester music scene after a lengthy four month lay off. Invaluable time, spent concentrating on solo projects, creative and diverse side ventures and watching every episode of All Creatures Great and Small. If you want to know just how good these guys are, check out a glowing review here.

Evil Blizzard

The contemporaneously named Evil Blizzard are one of the many side projects of Treehouse 3 drummer and Northwest music legend, Mark Whiteside. Evil Blizzard boast a raw, paired down sound of vocals, bass and drums. It’s a heady mix; on the one hand, seemingly avant garde, however, thanks to some excellent songwriting, some tight performances and some truly inspired gags, it’s a performance well worth catching.

Cigarette

Reforming after a near fifteen year hiatus, Cigarette look guaranteed to bring something of the Left Bank to this year’s Punkmas.

Mixing some laid back gothic rhythms with the off beat sounds of Jacques Brel, Cigarette are guaranteed to surprise and entertain. They tell jokes, too.

campbestivallogo

Fresh from winning the coveted Family Festival Award at this year’s UK Festival Awards, Camp Bestival is all set to continue its crusade to bring back the Great British summer holiday with bells on, returning to the salubrious surrounds of Lulworth Castle for another jam-packed jaunt bursting with bountiful excitement for all the family.  It might only be cold December but with Christmas on the horizon what better way to banish the winter chills than to treat the family by getting them something extra-special to look forward to for the first weekend of the school summer hols – July 30th to August 1st, 2010 – Camp Bestival is a wonderland of joy that not only promises myriad extra curricular pleasures but also has more musical thrills than Dorset’s Jurassic coastline has got fossils, all generously sprinkled with our very own, extra-special Bestival magic.

Bouncing with excitement Rob da Bank says: ‘‘It seems only yesterday that we were basking in the sun singing along to Mr Tumble and then watching PJ Harvey captivate the whole site with her extraordinary solo performance but it’s that time again to unveil what we’ve been planning thus far for 2010. From Saturday night headliners the nutty boys Madness to Bill Drummond’s inspirational new music project, from folk royalty Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick to DJ Yoda and Beardyman it’s looking like a typically random yet happy family. Hope to see you there’.

Kicking off the first announcement for what is destined to be our most barnstorming jamboree yet, we are overjoyed to be welcoming the nutty boys, Madness, to our family feast of fun! Undoubtedly a national treasure, Madness, who are riding the crest of a critically acclaimed wave for their recent ‘Liberty of Norton Folgate’ album, boast a back catalogue the envy of almost everybody, ever, their appeal knows no bounds so we can be assured of a rip-roaring knees up they take to the stage to play their Saturday night headline slot.  Commenting on the set the band said: “We love nothing more then a good old family knees up and if we get anywhere near the reception we got at Bestival in 2007 we’ll feel like kings of Lulworth Castle.”

Synth-pop overlords The Human League will be gracing Lulworth Castle with a superlative selection of their anthemic tunes. One of Steel City’s most enduring bands, The Human League’s faultless body of work is still as breathtaking as ever, never failing to create an exceptionally electric atmosphere wherever they perform. Also joining Camp Bestival’s ever-eclectic line up will be the living embodiment of Funk, George Clinton with Parliament Funkadelic. Famed for the mind-bending, coruscating live sets that span his entire career, George Clinton is one of nature’s true one-offs and a real living legend. Current king of the pop tree, Calvin Harris will be invading the stage and your brain with his indelible hooks, a sure-fire guarantee to put a smile on your face and get your feet moving and all-conquering, MOBO Awards winning Chipmunk will be in the zone to keep on rhyming and shining, whipping the crowd into a frenzy.

Mr Tumble

One of the revelations of Camp Bestival 2009 was the mighty Mr Tumble. He proved such an enormous hit with the kids (and, let’s face it, their parents!) that we just had to get him back for 2010! This time though, it’s so much bigger and better because we’ve got him for the whole 3 days of the event! With a series of slapstick and makaton sing-along performances and some extra-special meet and greets spanning the entire event, the tiny tots won’t know what’s hit them!

We always like something a bit different and special so we’re ecstatic that Camp Bestival will play host to one of the music and art world’s most intriguing maverick sons, Bill Drummond, giving you the chance to become part of an amazing musical art project. Bill Drummond the Choir Master – Become a member of The17: Bill Drummond’s (KLF, Timelords etc) choir. In this exclusive UK appearance, Bill will work with 10 groups of 17 people to record one of his scores. These will be combined and played back to the entire audience at Camp Bestival on Sunday night. To be part of one of the first 5 choirs to take part, email The17[at]campbestival.net to register now. All ages welcome!

The cultural pleasures of Camp Bestival are taking shape with a veritable smorgasbord of erudite delights. We are thrilled to announce that The English National Ballet will return for our 2010 show.  One of the highlights of 2009, we can’t wait to see what they’ve got planned for us this time!  You can also feed your brain with mind-treats at The East Lulworth Literary Institute where you can relish rare live interviews with the likes of film director Andrea Arnold; learn How To Be DJ Derek with the man himself; discover ‘ideas to live by’ through expert sessions from the School of Life; plus loads of other diverse and fascinating special guests and sessions to be announced soon. There’s also House of Fairytales a brand new art project headed up by renowned artist Gavin Turk, the Polka Tent – one of the massive successes from Bestival – few tents sum up the madness that the festival vibe can reach with wall to wall, end to end Crazy Hoedown music, Balkan Bangers, Speed Gypsy and Kleizmer chaos, plus The World Famous will be back with the awe-inspiring pyrotechnical pleasures of their Son et Lumiere extravaganza.

We’re exceedingly pleased to welcome back local heroes River Cottage Café. A huge hit with the Camp Bestival crowd in 2009, the River Cottage Café crew will return in 2010 with a sumptuous selection of rustic nourishment. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall commented: ‘Myself and the River Cottage Team had such a fantastic time at this year’s Camp Bestival! We are really excited to be involved again with the River Cottage Café in 2010!’

There’s even more music on offer with Reggae’s greatest living son Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry set to stoke his soul fire, arch Mancunian messiahs The Fall are a definite must-see band and the incredible Cuban Brothers will be causing musical mayhem and popping up in various incarnations across the site. Indulging in the pastoral vibes of Dorset, folk will be represented in its many flavours with the incredibly influential Martin Carthy & (a reinvigorated) Dave Swarbrick back together and kicking up a fiddle-driven storm, Fife’s finest James Yorkston will be exuding his resonant burr, the lauded Stornoway will add some ramshackle raggle-taggle spirit to proceedings and Beth Jeans Houghton will captivate with her blissful acoustica. There will also be some twitchy and glitchy, treats from Gold Panda and the  Countryside Alliance Crew will bring their bucolic beats for the Camp B massive.

The first names on the disco team sheet, charged with ramping up Camp Bestival’s dancefloor mayhem include DJ Yoda who will be crabbing, flaring and cutting up the beats and bass like only he can and head honcho Rob da Bank who will drop the musical manna from heaven in his own imitable style. Old skool warriors Ragga Twins, mash-up marvels Nextmen featuring MC Wrec, Reggae sound system legend DJ Derek, Dubstep don Joker, House touchstone Cooly G, Amiga adventurer Boy 8-Bit, harbinger of Hyper bass L-Vis 1990, Trunk Records’ supremo Jonny Trunk and super-charged 78 action from Greg’s Greats are all also set to appear. Plus we welcome the return of teen rave sensations Let’s Go Crazy who promise the sound of bouncy punishing bass, dark disco beats, pulsing basslines and infectious drum ‘n bass which will have the whole tent skanking.

Comedy comes courtesy of Bestival favourite Andrew Maxwell who will also be performing his infamous Maxwell’s Fullmooners, Australia’s finest Jim Jefferies who has made his mark on panel shows including Have I Got News For You, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Fighting Talk and Marcus Brigstocke & Andre Vincent who will be performing The Early Edition.

altitude festival logo

Combining their love of comedy, music and snowboarding Marcus Brigstocke and Andrew Maxwell have announced that the third Altitude Festival is due to take place between 20th and 26th March 2010.

Set in the fabulous skiers paradise of Les Trois Vallees – the largest skiing area in the world – right in the heart of the French Alps, (predominantly Meribel but also in Val Thorens and Courcheval), Altitude is without doubt the funniest show on snow.

With amazing powder skiing and boarding by day in beautiful warm spring conditions and fabulous entertainment by night, Altitude has become the destination for those who are serious about their winter sports but want their après ski to be riotously entertaining. Hosting both the prestigious elite of comedy and the cream of up-and-coming stand ups, Altitude is the first chance to check out brand new material from some of the best comedians around before they take it on to the Edinburgh Festival.

Previous Altitude festivals have featured global heavyweights of the international comedy circuit including Craig Campbell (Canada), Brendan Burns (Australia), Dave Fulton (USA), Henning When (Germany), Phil Jupitus (UK), Jenny Éclair (UK), Lee Mack (UK), Ed Byrne (Ireland), Omid Djalili (Iran), Christophe Aleveque (France), Rich Hall (USA) and Ardal O’ Hanlan (Ireland) and a host of other comedians who have notched up numerous Perrier / If awards, Chortle Awards, British Comedy Awards, Bafta’s, Emmy’s and Channel 4’s King Of Comedy award.

As hosts Andrew Maxwell and Marcus Brigstocke will both appear over the course of the week.  Andrew is the celebrated founder of the weekly comedy gig Fullmooners, an eclectic mix of comedians and vaudeville acts which has played host to the likes of Russell Brand, Simon Pegg, Tommy Teirnan and Ed Byrne.  His tumultuous and hedonistic observations and confessions have made him a ‘must see’ on the comedy circuit and his constant touring and TV appearance have led to him becoming one of the most significant comedians of his generation.

Marcus Brigstocke is a comic, writer, presenter and actor who coined the now legendary Pac Man joke*.  He works extensively in stand up comedy, radio and television, is the host of BBC 4’s Late Edition (Newsnight with jokes!), team captain for the hit TV show Argumental and a regular guest on shows like QI and Have I Got News For You.  His street wise social commentary has led to claims that he has topical comedy sewn up and he is sure to deliver a blizzard of killer lines.

The first batch of comedians announced for 2010 features Neil Delamere, one of the top acts working in the Irish comedy scene today.  His sharp observational eye and hilarious storytelling has seen him featured prominently on TV in his home country and he is a recurrent guest on Michael McIntyre’s renowned comedy show on Channel 4.  His set is eagerly anticipated as is that of Belfast’s Colin Murphy, a prolific comedian and writer who has had many shows broadcast on TV and radio in Ireland and appeared in the critically acclaimed, award winning film Divorcing Jack alongside David Thewlis.

Also appearing is Stephen Frost a veteran of the comedy scene and his famed improv shows are highlights of festivals such as The Edinburgh Festival and Glastonbury.  His extensive TV work takes in shows such as Blackadder, Mr Bean, Have I Got News For You and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.  Canadian comedy star Craig Campbell has performed live with Jim Carrey and at the renowned ‘Just For Laughs’ comedy festival in Montreal so expect a set of truly inventive storytelling and whimsical travel anecdotes coupled with a unique ability to find humour in the mundane.

Seriously upping the musical alpine ante Altitude welcomes platinum selling artist Newton Faulkner a stalwart of numerous traditional music festivals who will bring his acclaimed live show and renowned guitar playing style to the piste.  Mad cap funksters The Cuban Brotherswill provide visual and aural stimulation for the masses and if you’ve never seen breakdancing in the snow then you’re in for a treat.  Cut n’ Paste genius DJ Yoda is a man at the top of his game delivering eclectic AV sets that will ensure the peeks reached are not only those at the top of the mountain.

Fellow DJ and Dub Pistol don Barry Ashworth will be dropping some speaker worrying bass in a set so heavy they’ve already put the resort on avalanche warning.  Previous musical delights have included club nights by the likes of Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi as well as performances by KT Tunstall and Norman Jay MBE.

With such an array of talent in the evenings it’s often easy to forget the entertainment that the daylight hours provide.  Perfect snow conditions, panoramic views from the mountain tops and some of the best runs in the world make this resort a skier and snowboarders paradise.  When not partaking all the family can check out the professionals at snowsports events such as the Jib session  which attract the best pro riders from around the world.  For those of a less serious disposition join in with the Wacky Races, fancy dress, three legged ski races, snowball fights and expression sessions.  Fun for all the family.

With over 50 shows and events after skiing this week long comedy, music, ski and snow party is the perfect way to end a day on the hill and in this case the perfect end to the almighty alpine ski season.

Rockness Line-UpThe countdown to ROCKNESS 2010 officially commenced today with the announcement that THE STROKES - recent recipients of ALBUM OF THE DECADE by NME for ‘Is This It’, the seminal work that defined a moment and sent the band on a trajectory to global acclaim - are confirmed to headline the Highland music festival in June.

Widely acknowledged as one of the finest exponents of alternative garage rock in a generation and renowned for their electrifying live shows, the band’s RockNess assault signals an end to a four year hiatus and comes with the tantalising news of a new album on its way.

In a hugely exciting new development, which bears testament to the kudos and blossoming popularity of RockNess, BBC RADIO 1 is today announced as the OFFICIAL RADIO PARTNER to the festival. The station’s hottest names du jour including Annie Mac and Rob da Bank are all set to head north with the two each hosting their own unique arenas. Expect an array of awesome talent to be revealed over the coming months!

In true RockNess style, the proverbial envelope continues to be pushed to the max for 2010 with more new arenas added that once again promise to deliver an exceptional soundtrack signalling the start of summer as well as the most festival fun to be had over any weekend.

In a monstrous Scottish festival exclusive, the spectacular sensory overload known as the ARCADIA ARENA makes its big, bold RockNess debut. This world class audio and visual feast, orchestrated by the Arcadia collective of artists, technicians and engineers, blew Glastonbury into orbit this year with the brand new Afterburner Mk2 set and was one of the most spectacular night time shows the festival had ever seen. Now the extravaganza is heading to RockNess where a mind boggling array of post-apocalyptic pyrotechnics, dramatic podiums extending into the crowd, multi rave platforms and truly awesome fire performance displays will all be set against a cutting edge music offering from the world’s top DJs including Bestival’s Rob da Bank . This is one of the few times the ARCADIA ARENA will have been witnessed outside of Glastonbury, and set against the iconic backdrop of Loch Ness, expect to be well and truly blown away!

In customary RockNess tradition, the very finest electronic and dance music will be represented in full force for 2010. Back by overwhelming demand and in a move sure to generate mass excitement, the mighty 2 MANY DJS are lined up as the official house band of this year’s festival in a unique new production that is yet to be unveiled, but promises to take their great live reputation to another level. In a weekend-long sonic assault, the prolific duo are confirmed as hosting 2 MANY DJS live in their own arena on the Saturday and performing live as SOULWAX on the Sunday. What’s more, the good time vibes and exemplary mash ups will continue throughout the weekend with the news that for the first time RADIO SOULWAX will be broadcast online from the site.

Rounding up this exciting first announcement is the news that FRIENDLY FIRES, the Mercury-nominated electro popsters will be bringing their epic soundscapes to The Highlands in another RockNess debut.

Jim King, RockNess’ Festival Director said on the announcement:

“We’re definitely going to have our best ever line up this year with some of the strongest new acts to be announced over the coming months. We’re also targeting acts that have been hugely influential over the last decade and none come bigger than The Strokes.

We’re also really excited about 2 Many DJs playing live and they have some extra special production announcements to make in the New Year. There’s a lot still to be unveiled and I’m actually as excited about Arcadia’s Afterburner coming to RockNess as I am about some of the acts. When I saw it at Glastonbury I thought it was the most amazing installation I’d ever seen at a festival. It’s going to blow people’s minds. We all think 2010 is going to be a really great year at RockNess.”

RockNess 2010 - The Most Beautiful Festival in the World – takes place on Friday 11th – Sunday 13th June and returns as a three-day event following last year’s success when the Main Stage got the party started on the Friday night for the first time.

This year in another first, FRONT ROW CAMPING Early Bird tickets are being launched at £120 each for the weekend. Great news for those fast enough to secure their place closer to all the main arena, and late night action, not forgetting those awesome views down the magical loch. This offer will run for a limited period only so it’s advised to get in there quick to avoid disappointment. Tickets go on sale at 9am this Thursday 3 December as an exclusive pre-sale via the RockNess website and Ticketline – www.ticketline.co.uk, and on general sale via all other ticket agents next Monday 7 December at 9am.

ABOUT ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES

All Tomorrow’s Parties has been promoting festivals and concerts throughout the world for the last ten years. It was founded in the wake of Belle and Sebastian’s Bowlie Weekender, with Mogwai curating in the unusual setting of Pontins Holiday Camp, Camber Sands. Since then the festival has appeared every year and has expanded across the globe continuing to set itself apart from large scale corporate festivals by staying intimate and fan-friendly. The line-ups are chosen by significant bands or artists which results in eclectic events that combine performances by legendary and influential acts with appearances by the latest crop of experimental artists from any (and every) musical genre. The festival has become more successful with every passing year, and ATP events have taken place in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia, with past curators including Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Mike Patton, My Bloody Valentine, Portishead, Sonic Youth, Slint, and Tortoise.

For ten years ATP has set itself apart from other festivals by embracing seemingly disparate artistic genres, with events featuring art exhibitions, cinema programmes, spoken word performances and stand up comedy. It’s been called ‘Unforgettable’ by Spin and ‘the most enjoyable festival experience of our reporter’s life’ by Pitchfork. It has spawned an acclaimed concert series (Don’t Look Back), a record label (ATP Recordings), and the release of a feature length documentary about the festivals from Warp X, titled All Tomorrow’s Parties, out on DVD in November 2009. The festival which kicks off on 29th October, and runs through to 16th November, is now in its 7th year, and has grown from a single venue event to a burgeoning, nationally recognised event, and has become the UK’s biggest indoor winter music festival. It has also attracted some of the worlds biggest acts.

This year’s line up is by far the biggest and most diverse to date, covering every genre imaginable, from rock, indie, dance, folk, leftfield and beyond.

Acts already confirmed to perform include The Specials, Kasabian, Seasick Steve, Calvin Harris, Super Furry Animals, The Enemy, Reverend & The Makers, The Gallows and Brand New Heavies.

However, the ethos behind the festival still remains, which is to support new music and offer a performance platform for fresh emerging talent. In fact, Liverpool Music Week has catapulted the careers of many artistes that have gone onto dominate the airwaves and music press.

This year is no different, as well as the big name acts, there is a world of entertainment to be discovered at the array of free shows which will be happening across 20 city centre venues, during the 2 week festival.

Highlights include Wild Beasts @ Alma on Tuesday 3rd November, who are set for international success next year, and this year received a 5* review in the Sunday Times for their highly acclaimed album.

For the dance heads, BBC Radio 1 favourite, Jaguar Skills, performs live for his Liverpool Music Week debut at Bumper on 14th November.

At The Masque, Kurt Cobain’s hero and favourite songwriter Daniel Johnston, an artiste with 30 albums already under his belt, this will be his debut at the festival and is set to be one of the biggest events on the Liverpool Music Week calendar. He will be performing his set with memebrs of Wave Machines and Hot Club De Paris, as his backing band.

Maps will be making their Liverpool Music Week debut at Bumper on 7th November and will be performing material from their Mercury nominated new album.

Bombay Bicycle Club make their debut at the festival, performing a free show at The Masque on 4th November. 2009 has been their biggest year to date, with a Summer of high profile events. They also managed to beat off the likes of La Roux and The White Lies as NME readers ‘Best 2009 New Festival Band’ award.

Adding some blues flavour to the diversity of this years festival is Son Of Dave, who will be jetting off to America after playing his gig to record his new album with legendary producer Steve Albini.

The Klaxons favourite new band, Chrome Hoof, make their Liverpool debut with a full 12 piece band. Expect a trippy, futuristic disco performance from these guys.

Other free show highlights on the bill include Crazy P, Killa Kela, Field Music, Grammatics, The Holloways, Jay Reatard, Dananananaykroyd and Israel funk band The Apples.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a man at V Festival, Chelmsford on the last day of the festival.

The incident took place between 4pm and 8pm on Sunday 23rd August in the Arena Stage tent. A 50-year-old from Chelmsford was punched in the face after asking a man to stop bothering a group of girls. When the victim fell to the floor the suspect jumped on the man’s left leg, breaking it in two places.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s of large build with short brown hair and a tanned complexion.

wristband4festivals would like to point out that this sort of assault at festivals occurs rarely, and hopes the scumbag who perpetrated the attack is caught. If anyone witnessed this assault, or has any information about the assault, they are asked to call Chelmsford CID on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The world is currently in a state of shock as one of the most iconic musicians of the past 100 years has passed away.

jackopressPA

Paramedics were called to Michael Jackson’s home around midday US local time on Thursday after he stopped breathing and suffered a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to a local medical centre, but his death was announced shortly afterwards.

The singer’s death is already being compared to that of Princess Diana’s and has captured the same measure of shock from a global audience who stared in disbelief at their TV and computer screens.

Tributes have poured in for the 50-year-old, who will go down in history as the king of pop.

Uri Geller and Michael Jackson

Close friend Uri Geller was one of the first to speak of Michael’s death: “I’m absolutely devastated and shocked… I really have no words. I pray that his soul is up there now. It’s too surreal for me to absorb that Michael is no longer with us.”

Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson

Jackson’s ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley said: ”I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible. I am heartbroken for his children, who I know were everything to him and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me.”

Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones

Music producer Quincy Jones told MSNBC: “I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news.” He said Jackson “had it all – talent, grace, professionalism and dedication. I’ve lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him.”

Matt Fiddes and Michael Jackson

Former bodyguard Matt Fiddes commented: “He’s the most misunderstood man in world. Everyone thought he was this weird freak but when you’re with him he’s as normal as everyone else. I don’t think he felt he was as famous as everyone else thought, he didn’t know any different.

“He was a very caring guy who would go out of his way to help the sick. One night in London he wanted to see some homeless people. He sent them loads of pizzas in secret. The guy had a good heart.

“We used to dress him up and sneak out of hotel room and do normal things in shops, people wouldn’t know who he was but we wanted to give him a taste of the real life.”

ashton kutcher twitter

Ashton Kutcher wrote on his Twitter account: “RIP. Sending love and light to family and friend but especially his kids. Plea to the press to respect his wishes of maintaining the anonymity of his children. I plea to the public to refuse to consume media that does not respect the anonymity of Michael’s children.”

MJ & P_ Diddy_jpg

P Diddy had this to say: “”Michael Jackson showed me that you can actually see the beat. He made the music come to life! He made me believe in magic. I will miss him!”

A spokeswoman for The Outside Organisation, which was organising the publicity for the shows, said she had no comment at this time.
